New immigration rules affect international students in UK

New rules set out by Theresa May will make it impossible for non EU to work in the UK after their studies have finished, as May states that publicly funded further education colleges should “develop sustainable funding models that are not so dependent on international students”.

Students at further education colleges will not be able to switch to a Tier 2 Visa, allowing them to stay in the UK to work, they will have to apply for the visa from outside the UK from 12th November this year. Also, from 3rd August this year they will not be allowed to work part-time while they study.

The rules differ for University students though as they will not be required to apply for a Tier 2 working visa from outside the UK however, they will need to provide evidence of enough savings to fund their living and course fees for up to nine months, or the full length of their course.
