0.6% of females encouraged to pursue career in construction

According to research carried out by Accenture, less than 1% of women are encouraged to pursue a career in construction, in comparison with 12% of men. A study of females students aged 12 in the UK showed that 60% of girls believe that STEM subjects are ‘too difficult to learn’, with 47% believing they were better suited to boys brains.

Kirstie Donnelly, UK Managing Director at City and Guilds believes that “it’s really dangerous that certain industries or training programmes are regarded as ‘male’ or ‘female’ – it’s old-fashioned and doesn’t reflect the reality of men and women excelling in all different fields.”
