Ian spent over 40 years at BT, progressing from apprentice to senior leadership roles across global markets. He supported major joint ventures, secured international investments and led compliance, data accuracy and fraud-prevention programmes that strengthened operational performance and protected the business’s reputation. Known for his calm, thoughtful approach, he built strong relationships across cultures and helped teams navigate complex strategic and operational challenges.

Alongside his executive career, Ian has contributed widely in voluntary and representative roles.  Ian served as President of the Prospect IT and Telecoms sector, the elected body that conducts the  sector business of the union between conferences. His background spans the Telecoms and Technology sectors where Prospect has significant membership. He brings branch-level and national governance experience of how unions make decisions, prioritise campaigns and allocate resource. 

Ian is recognised for his steady leadership, integrity, and collaborative style. Outside work, he enjoys Scouting, cooking, and travelling.
