New zero-hours figures released

2.4% of workers in the UK are employed on zero-hour contracts, most of them hoping for additional hours to supplement their income. In fact around 36% of employees want more hours from their employers along with the 5% seeking an additional job.

There has been a 6% rise in zero-hour contracts in the last year, though the true figure may be a lot higher, ‘the fact that many of those surveyed in the ONS study might not know what a zero-hours contract is could mean the scope of the problem is far greater than the figures indicate’ says Jon Ingham, Glassdoor’s career and workplace expert.
