93% of employers vet candidates social media profiles

Findings from a new survey by Jobvite on 1,855 HR Managers shows that 93% of employers use social media sites Facebook and Twitter to vet potential candidates pre-interview. As a result of this, 55% of recruiters admit to re-evaluating their decision to hire someone based on their social profile. The survey was conducted within engineering, IT, marketing and sales sectors.

A separate survey carried out by Barclays LifeSkills on 2,000 18-25 year olds showed that 77% were aware that potential employers check candidates social media profiles before hiring but 24% admit to having no privacy settings to protect their profiles.
