New regulation on zero hour contracts

New regulation has come into place to allow employees working under zero hour contracts to make an employment tribunal claim if their employer punishes them for seeking work elsewhere.

Zero hour contracts have incurred exclusivity clauses since May 2015, but did not occur penalties – which meant that employer’s could still punish their staff.

An award of compensation could follow a successful claim, with the claim amount being decided by each individual employment tribunal.
