Malcolm has been Director of Acas West Midlands since July 2006 having moved back to the Midlands from Acas North West. Since joining Acas in 1987 as a Conciliation Officer dealing with individual claims to the employment tribunal, he has progressed through the organisation, working in all areas of operational delivery, including collective conciliation and consultancy work. He has also been involved in a number of major policy initiatives working with a range of government departments and the social partners.

During his time with Acas he has worked on a number of major projects including: the design and implementation of the first in company mediation scheme, membership of the technical group which developed the HSE Stress Management Standards, membership of the Taylor Committee appointed to review and design disciplinary arrangements and improve professional conduct within the Police and a number of overseas projects including the development of Labour Tribunal and Dispute Resolution procedures within the Peoples Republic of China. He has specialised in supporting business growth through management training, employee engagement and developing the link with health and wellbeing in the workplace. More recently he has focused on age management and gender pay within the area of general equality, diversity and inclusion.

Prior to joining Acas, he worked within petroleum retail and then logistics within the food industry. A member of CIPD, he is a graduate of Warwick University, where he studied Economics and Politics. He later graduated in Law, before becoming a Master of Laws, both by way of part time study.
