Recruitment industry specialist lawyer: Founder and MD of compliance and legal consultancy Lawspeed, chairman of the Association of Recruitment Consultancies (ARC) and founder and director of the recruitment standards accreditation organisation Standards in Recruitment (SiR)
Adrian qualified as a solicitor in 1978. In 1997 he set up Lawspeed devising new forms of commercial contracts and innovative support for recruitment agencies and related providers. Adrian’s work includes creating the first IR35 friendly contracts in 2000, the first successful IR35 challenge for the contractor (HMRC v LimeIT) and designing the first IR35 expenses insurance. He is also the architect of the conduct regulations limited company opt out.
In 2009, Adrian founded the Association of Recruitment Consultancies (ARC) to provide a membership service for lobbying on the big issues affecting recruiters and to provide day to day support on compliance and operations. ARC helped persuade the government to change its approach to the AWR in 2010, setting a precedent that confirmed ARC's guiding principle to identify and address the big issues. Adrian in conjunction with Lawspeed devised and created Standards in Recruitment, launched in 2015, to fill a need for a single standard applicable to all recruitment businesses.
Adrian is a member of BSI standards e-committee and the Genesis Initiative, the inter- parliamentary lobbying group for SMEs.
Adrian regularly speaks at seminars and events related to recruitment law and all related operational aspects including long term strategy. His singular approach is to help business minimise risk by having the best contracts and processes in place whilst at the same time have a voice to be heard on the bigger picture.
