Mark is an Employment Tax Director working across the Thames and West. He is CTA qualified and has over 30 years’ experience in employment taxes.
Having started his career at HMRC, he moved into practice in 2000 and has worked both in “the Big 4” and, for the last years, at BDO. He advises clients from a range of sectors, including pharma, telecoms, retail and motor industry. The clients are also diverse in terms of size, ranging from 20 employees through to the thousands, including globally recognised names.
He advises in two broad areas – compliance and cost efficiency. On compliance, he deals with issues relating to year end reporting, treatment of termination payments, Pay Governance and off payroll working. This ranges from dealing with specific issues, to creating policies and procedures around good governance, to training relevant stakeholders so that they can manage work in house. For cost efficiency, he helps clients review and implement arrangements that will both help retain staff, and reduce costs. This can be include simple arrangements to make use of exemptions, etc for costs relating to staff entertaining; through to implementation of salary sacrifice and similar arrangements. The two areas will typically merge, as he enjoys working with clients to consider alternative compliant approaches that may have a more efficient tax treatment.
Mark is also neurodivergent and believes this enables him to bring a creative approach to client advice.
