Prioritising and supporting financial wellbeing and employee mental health
Niamh Nicholson
Partnerships and Helpline Coordinator , Anxiety UK
Starting as a volunteer on the helpline with Anxiety UK, Niamh found the experience so rewarding she was keen to join the team full time and contribute to the impactful work done at the organisation. Niamh is a degree educated biologist who, following a few years working in the biotechnology industry, changed career paths and joined the Anxiety UK team as a staff member in 2020. Her role in the organisation primarily involves management of the national helpline; part of the strong support delivery arm of Anxiety UK which also offers therapy, groups, courses and much more. Niamh also coordinates commercial and charity partnerships alongside delivering workplace training and online webinars. As such, she has experience of delivering talks and training to a wide range of audiences. Niamh is passionate about raising awareness of anxiety and sharing the ways in which it can be managed so that people dealing with anxiety know they are not alone. Anxiety UK is a user-led charity which provides access to services for people with a range of anxiety, stress and anxiety-based depression conditions.

Duncan Brown
Principal Associate at IES & Visiting Professor , University of Greenwich
Duncan has 30 years’ experience working in major HR consultancies and employment institutes, including Willis Towers Watson and IES. He also spent five years as the deputy CEO at CIPD. His clients have included National Grid, the Cabinet Office, the Department of Health, Unicef UK and the Fairtrade Foundation. He has carried out major reviews for the government of the pay determination methodologies for groups including doctors and dentists and the judiciary. He has been on expert panels on topics including employee engagement, fair pay and pensions; and he inputted extensively on the gender pay reporting proposals. He was also a member of the research team that have carried out the gender pay gap in medicine review. Earlier this year, he was confirmed in the top ten HR Most Influential Thinkers list produce by Human Resources magazine.
Katherine Chapman
Director , Living Wage Foundation
Katherine joined the Living Wage Foundation as Director in March 2016. The Living Wage Foundation oversees the Living Wage movement in the UK and accredits employers who pay all direct staff and regular contractors the real Living Wage. Since Katherine joined, the number of Living Wage employers in the UK has grown to 10,000 including 50% of the FTSE 100 and thousands of small firms. The Foundation has also launched a new benchmark Living Hours and is developing a Living Pension. Before joining the Foundation, Katherine was Assistant Director at the UK Commission for Employment and Skills, a public body providing leadership on employment and skills issues in the UK working with industry leaders and policy makers on strategies to boost productivity, wages and social mobility. Previously Katherine was Head of Education and Skills at Policy Connect bringing together business leaders, public bodies and parliamentarians on a range of issues including the gender skills gaps, careers advice and Apprenticeships. Katherine is a trustee of the Good Business Charter in the UK and a Commissioner for the Business Commission to Tackle Inequality for the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).

Carolina de Almeida
Training Manager , Advocacy Focus
Carolina is the Training Manager at Advocacy Focus. She specialises in supporting the creation of happier and healthier workplaces, through the delivery of evidence-based and action-focused training solutions. Carolina has worked with community groups, charities, public and private sector organisations of different sizes to assess their wellbeing needs and by tailoring training and support packages has supported the implementation of impactful mental health and wellbeing, and menopause initiatives. Carolina is a Mental Health First Aid England Instructor and an advocate for accessible mental health care, especially dedicated to having mental health conversations and increasing awareness of poor mental health within marginalised communities. Carolina is the host of Advocacy Focus’ own podcast, FocusAF, which aims to increase awareness of a wide range of advocacy and mental health topics through an informal conversational format with experts in the sector. Managing all aspects of training for the charity, the training delivered by Carolina funds vital community services in Lancashire, Trafford, and St Helens where Advocacy Focus support children, young people, and adults in all aspects of health and social care.
